It's finally happening! After extensive development and real-world testing, Performance Adapters is officially opening pre-orders for adapting 7.3 Power Stroke and IDI engines to the 10R140 transmission. This is one of the most anticipated swaps in the diesel community, and we're ready to make it available to you.

Introducing the 10R140 Adapter Packages

We're launching pre-orders across three engine platforms: 7.3 Power Stroke, 1988–1990 7.3 IDI, and 1991–1994 7.3 IDI. Each platform has multiple package configurations to suit your specific needs, whether you're building a 2WD or 4x4 setup.

Important note: This pre-order is for the 10R140 transmission only. The 6R140 controller is not yet available. If you're waiting for a 6R140 solution, we appreciate your patience. US Shift plans to begin development once the 10R140 controller is completed, but we don't have a confirmed timeline yet. We'll announce a separate pre-order for the 6R140 at a later date.

Major Improvements to the Design

Based on feedback and testing, we've made significant upgrades to the adapter plate and switched to the 6.4L Power Stroke starter. This change delivers several real-world benefits: no Bendix cover or extended retaining section means less material removal for starter gear clearance, a more compact design compared to 7.3PS/IDI starters, improved cranking performance especially in cold weather, and easy availability when you need a replacement part.

We've also confirmed compatibility with NP271 and NP273 transfer cases. In our test bed truck, we kept the transfer case within 0.25" of its factory location, which means no custom driveshafts are needed—a significant cost savings. For both Power Stroke and IDI applications, you'll retain your OEM flexplate, which bolts directly to the 10R140 torque converter. For 1991–1994 models, we provide a converter spacer/adapter to ensure proper fitment.

Choose the Right Package for Your Engine

IDI and Power Stroke platforms are not the same. We've invested significant time confirming the differences, and you must select the correct package for your specific engine range. These components are not interchangeable, so double-check your engine type before ordering.

What to Expect During Installation

We want to be transparent about fitment. While we've engineered these swaps to be as straightforward and clean as possible, these are not guaranteed direct bolt-ins with zero modifications. Some adjustments will likely be needed for exhaust routing and starter clearance depending on your specific setup. As with any swap, expect some level of customization to get everything fitting and functioning properly. The good news: no custom driveshafts means serviceability is straightforward when you need to work on your truck.

Limited-Time Pre-Order Incentives

All pre-orders placed between May 4 and May 17 include a 6.4L starter (valued at $140–$200), a 10R140 transmission cooler line adapter with 8AN fitting, and an additional $125 discount if you add our transmission cooler package. Orders placed after May 17 will not include these extras, so act now to take advantage of these bonuses.

Pricing and Shipping

Due to the size of these kits and multi-box shipping requirements, we've set a flat-rate shipping cost of $45 within the lower 48 states. Estimated shipped weight for a full package is approximately 50 lbs. International customers—thank you for your continued support—we'll work with you directly to find the most reasonable shipping options.
